Heroes vs. the Demon King: Battle for the Realm The board game was created as part of the Game Production and Management course at Neu-Ulm University. The board game, a one-man project, is a mixture of co-op and adventure game. It adapts the video game "the legend of zelda majora's mask" as a board game.
Gameplay:
Story: Players embark on an adventure to defeat the Demon King by collecting artifacts in guarded dungeons.
Setting: The game is set in a mythical realm, showcasing a variety of landscapes, including volcanoes, oceans, and deserts.
Age Rating: Designed for players aged 8 and up, ideal for teenagers and adults.
Player Experience: The game emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and resource management, providing a rich and engaging experience that challenges both new and experienced players.
Gameplay: Players move around the board, collect emeralds, buy equipment and dungeon keys, defeat dungeon bosses, and ultimately fight against the Demon King.
Mechanics: Includes mechanisms such as resource gathering, item purchasing, and cooperative battle strategies to overcome bosses and obstacles.
Winning/Losing: Victory is achieved through collaboration to destroy the castle barrier, confront, and defeat the Demon King. The game is lost if players fail to overcome the dungeons and collect the necessary artifacts in time.
Visual Design: Cartoonish and simple.
Mechanics:
Board and Movement: Players move on a thematically designed board to collect emeralds. These emeralds are used to purchase equipment, weapon upgrades, horses, and keys for dungeons. Movement is determined by dice rolls.
Classes: Each player chooses a class at the beginning of the game: Warrior (tank with high armor and low damage), Archer (balanced damage and some armor), or Mage (high damage with no armor).
Combat System: Combat is turn-based with a simple dice system where higher rolls result in stronger attacks. Players attack first; a combat ends when an enemy is defeated.
Shops: Shops scattered across the board allow players to buy equipment, horses, and dungeon keys. Players do not need to land directly on a shop space to make a purchase.
Dungeons: Dungeons are special areas on the board that can only be entered if a player possesses a key. Each dungeon ends with a boss fight, upon whose defeat the player gains an artifact and the final weapon upgrade.
Trading: Players can trade emeralds among themselves, fostering strategic alliances and resource management.
Endgame and Boss Fight: The game ends when all players have collected the required artifacts and proceed to the castle in the center of the board to destroy the barrier and fight the Demon King. The final battle is a cooperative fight where the Demon King attacks all players simultaneously.
Game End: A victory is achieved by defeating the Demon King. The game is lost if the 30-turn limit is exceeded, with a turn being completed after each player has rolled and taken their actions.
